Unforgettable Moments: Why Your Photos Hold the Key to Cherishing Memories Forever

Imagine losing someone you love. You’re going through their things, picking out items that hold special meaning to you. You come across a shoebox of photos. Perhaps some that you’ve never seen in your life. You see a different side to your loved one, a glimpse of who they once were, the house they lived in before you were born, family vacations that you’ve never been told about. Are these memories special? Of course. Are they priceless? Definitely.

Life moves incredibly fast. If you’re a parent, this is something you likely think about daily. If not, then you still can understand the feeling of how quickly the years pass. Photos are some of the most important possessions we can own, as they are a reminder of the many moments of our lives in tangible form. Do they have any value to those outside of our family? Doubtful. But what is their value to you?

Even if a documentary session isn’t in the budget for you right now, I encourage you to take real, unposed photos of your family. Capture life as it is, not what you want it to be. Real life isn’t Instagram feeds full of smiling, happy, perfectly coordinated families. It’s about the everyday, small moments, the good and the bad. The tantrum your four year old is throwing because they have to leave the park early, or the way your toddler always throws her food on the floor at dinner time. The routines throughout your day, the art that is made, the tiny chubby hands, bath time, their favorite toys or stuffies. One day you will look back and savor each and every moment that you, or your photographer have captured.

I live by the motto that you never regret the photos you take, only the ones you don’t.
